Mapping the UK microbiome landscape

Microbiome science is a rapidly growing interdisciplinary area that is taking a systems-focused approach to studying the relationships between microbes, their hosts and the environment. It incorporates expertise in biology, analytical chemistry, computer science, statistics and translational research infrastructure in a bid to find solutions for societal challenges such as chronic and infectious human diseases, issues around consumer health and wellbeing, plant and animal agricultural productivity conundrums and the ongoing threats of antimicrobial resistance and pandemics.

KTN’s Microbiome Innovation Network recently released reviewed the UK microbiome science and innovation landscape and mapped out recommendations to advance translation of world-leading research and commercialisation of these developments. Biophys Ltd's Bryan Hanley was part of the team that authored the resulting Microbiome Strategic Roadmap.
